Job Summary

Leads the Design Training Manager and works closely with trainees to teach them new material, practice their skills, and prepare them to be employed as a Designer.

 

Works to achieve annual company objectives and personal performance goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Create a schedule for Design Trainee Program and follow through with the schedule to ensure all material is taught.
  • Teach basics of sprinkler design and elementary skills needed.
  • Teach basics of NFPA 13.
  • Teach AutoSprink program and ensure trainees have thorough knowledge of how it operates.
  • Teach trainees how to read an architectural and construction drawing.
  • Teach trainees how to complete a job from start to finish by creating “fake” jobs based on real job knowledge.
  • Supervise trainees while they perform “fake” and monitor performance; assist if needed.
  • Ensure trainees are ready to begin work on small service jobs and evaluate performance on these jobs.
  • Aids Designers in company when needed.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and performance of Design Trainees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 10+ years’ experience in sprinkler design is required.
  • NICET Certification Level 2 is required, Higher Levels are a plus.
  • Significant knowledge and experience with AutoSprink and AutoCad systems is required.
  • Knowledge of SprinkCAD required.
  • Experience with Navisworks and basic knowledge of Revit is required.
  • Knowledge of HydraTec is a plus.
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Powerpoint, Excel) applications is required.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge is required.
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results is required.
  • Building positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees and management is required.
  • Demonstrating integrity and professionalism is required.
  • Demonstrating commitment to company values is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills is required.
  • Ability to follow-up on tasks and assignments in a timely manner is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach. Activities that may be required infrequently include standing, walking, lifting, pulling/pushing, crawling, using hands to grasp and manipulating fingers to move and/or feel an object. Specific vision abilities required for the job include close acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision. The physical strength rating is classified as light work which entails exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. This position may be exposed to a range of environmental conditions including outdoors, dust, poor ventilation, and wet conditions. Eye protection, feet protection, and head protection may be required. Operation of a computer keyboard, copier/fax machine, hand calculator are required. Manual and power hand tools may be required. Understanding of simple math, simple drawings, technical reports, technical instructions, and layout work is required. In addition, the employee must be able to write or present simple memos, summaries, business letters, and technical reports.
