Job Summary

DeBra-Kuempel is seeking to fill a Building Automation Systems Software Engineer position. This position designs, programs, and commissions Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial facilities. The role troubleshoots control systems, supports system integration and start-up activities, and ensures systems operate as intended. The role also provides training and technical support to customers and technicians while helping deliver successful project outcomes. An ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in controls and related areas, and bring a customer-driven, problem-solving mindset to the team. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create control algorithms, download source code to controllers, manage system databases, and implement an animated front-end graphical user interface. 
  • Participate in final inspection and testing, assure customer acceptance, and conduct training for end user customers on system operations. 
  • Manage integration of multiple systems, facilitating information sharing between different protocols and establishing a front-end for multiple platforms 
  • Execute project start-ups, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of installed BAS controls and mechanical systems  
  • Work with project teams to demonstrate system operations and verify consistency with the contracted scope of work. 
  • Run and create semi-complex reports analyzing system operations 
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors to coordinate communication protocols, encryption, and database requirements for integration to their systems 
  • Provide plans and control system documents to application engineering teams to create as-built drawings using digital technology.  
  • Contribute to the layout and coordination of network drops, IP addresses and monitoring tools with customer's IT Department personnel. 
  • Train other controls technicians in preventative maintenance, repair, and care of BAS systems 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years background in temperature building automation and controls preferred 
  • Other technical experience such as military, job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement as determined by local management. 
  • Strong understanding of HVAC operations within a facility. 
  • Ability to configure and debug computer and networking problems. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuitry including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams. 
  • Working knowledge of AC power circuitry including breakers, multi-phase power, etc. (120VAC and greater) 
  • Background in Niagara Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Automated Logic Controls, and/or Alerton preferred 
  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems including MS Office Suite of products. 
  • Must be service-minded and customer focused. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  
  • Creative problem solving skills to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions
