Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Alarm Estimator to join our team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This position is ideal for an experienced fire protection professional with a strong background in fire alarm systems, special hazards, and project estimating.

 

In this role, you'll develop estimates and scopes of work for fire alarm, gas suppression, and special hazard systems, including complex industrial and commercial projects. You'll review construction drawings and specifications, perform project takeoffs and site surveys, develop preliminary system designs and calculations, and collaborate with customers and project teams throughout the life of the project.

 

We're looking for someone who brings strong fire protection estimating experience, technical knowledge, and customer communication skills and is comfortable working with complex fire alarm and life-safety systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate scopes of work, estimates, and preliminary bid drawings.
  • Perform project takeoffs using estimating software.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and engineered drawings for accuracy and alignment with estimates.
  • Conduct site surveys and document project conditions, measurements, and other relevant information.
  • Develop high-level design calculations for estimated systems.
  • Prepare detailed scope letters for individual project bids.
  • Perform contract reviews and required checklists for awarded projects.
  • Support project management activities, including monitoring project progress and maintaining change orders.
  • Monitor project job-cost reports and help identify potential issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Maintain customer communication throughout the duration of projects.
  • Support business development and customer relationship efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in the fire protection industry.
  • 3+ years of project estimating experience.
  • NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Special Hazards.
  • Experience estimating networked fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and related fire protection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Previous business development and/or customer relations experience.
  • Valid driver's license and excellent driving record.
  • Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, a related technical/business field, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
