Project Engineer Internship

We are a full-service electrical contractor offering commercial, industrial, residential, voice/data cabling, traffic signalization, and underground installations. We have extensive experience in both commercial and industrial electrical contracting, as well as installation and support for residential homes and buildings.

Job Title:           Project Engineering Intern

Reports to:        VP of Operations

Location:           Des Moines, IA

FLSA Status:      Hourly Non-Exempt

Position Description. Work with Project Managers, rotating through different divisions, assisting with project scopes, site surveys, estimates, bid work and other project work as needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Comply with all federal, state, and local safety and health guidelines and requirements, as well as site-specific safety provisions
• Partner with assigned Project Managers, Project Manager Assistants or other Project Engineers, in the following activities:
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, including, but not limited to, timekeeping duties, recycling efforts, vendor coordination, QA/QC projects and warranty tracking statements
  • Collecting historical data according to instruction and preparing for general project updates or cost estimates
  • Attending walk-throughs and other site meetings
  • Reviewing project timelines to communicate any updates needed
  • Assisting with takeoffs and pricing changes
• Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to HRM or Executive Leaders with recommendation for resolution.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Required Attributes and Competencies (Skills)

• Actively enrolled in college courses in a related field
• Long-term interest in a construction related career such as project management, estimating, operation management including safety, superintendent, etc.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Must have excellent organizational, communication, strategic, technical, analytical, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills
• Must have high standards of quality with attention to detail
• Conscientiousness, personal responsibility and dependability
• Familiarity with Windows based operating systems and web-based applications, include ERP systems or other construction/financial software packages
