Estimator

We are a single-source solution for the design and implementation of sophisticated mechanical and plumbing systems. Our integrated in-house production model utilizes coordinated BIM models to produce precise fabrication documentation to help ensure accurate installation.

The Estimator performs professional mechanical engineering analysis in support of preconstruction, design-build, design-assist, estimating, and bidding activities for HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping, and related building systems. The position applies mechanical engineering principles, calculations, technical judgment, and system-level analysis to develop and evaluate mechanical concepts, equipment selections, piping requirements, technical alternatives, scopes, quantities, budgets, and proposals for healthcare, institutional, commercial, and higher-education facilities. Cost estimating and proposal preparation are performed as downstream components of the technical engineering analysis completed for each project.

• • Perform HVAC load calculations and analyze heating, cooling, ventilation, and plumbing requirements for proposed and existing facilities.
  • Perform equipment sizing and technical selection of HVAC, plumbing, and related mechanical-system equipment.
  • Perform pipe sizing and evaluate preliminary piping configurations, routing, and system requirements.
  • Develop conceptual HVAC and plumbing drawings, mechanical-system layouts, and design-build concepts used for planning, budgeting, and preconstruction.
  • Review owner narratives, architectural drawings, engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify and evaluate technical system requirements.
  • Participate in design-build and design-assist projects by developing mechanical concepts and providing technical engineering input to project teams.
  • Review engineer-of-record designs and recommend technically appropriate revisions, alternatives, and value-engineering solutions.
  • Evaluate competing mechanical systems and recommend changes based on system performance, constructability, schedule, equipment availability, and cost implications.
  • Evaluate and recommend equipment and material substitutions based on technical suitability, compatibility, performance, lead time, and cost.
  • Prepare requests for information and coordinate with project teams, design professionals, suppliers, and subcontractors to resolve technical mechanical-system questions.
  • Prepare mechanical quantity takeoffs, technical scopes, pricing, cost estimates, and proposals using Trimble AutoBid and Microsoft 365 applications as a downstream component of the engineering analysis performed for the project.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by company leadership.

Required:

• Minimum 3 – 8 years of mechanical construction estimating experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Expertise in Plumbing, Mechanical Piping, and HVAC systems for healthcare, institutional, commercial or higher education projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical construction bidding processes.

 

Preferred:

• Academic knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, HVAC systems, piping systems, equipment selection, and mechanical-system analysis.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Strong communication skills with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
• Adaptability to company policies and procedures.

 

Computer Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Full working knowledge of Trimble Autobid.
• Familiarity with project management and document control software.
• Experience with construction and financial software packages.

 

 

Compensation Range:   Minimum annual base salary $75,000 to maximum annual base salary $95,000

 

Other Compensation:  position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
