SUMMARY

 

We are seeking a Construction a Preconstruction Engineer - Intern supports preconstruction and estimating teams in planning and developing competitive mechanical construction proposals. Under the guidance of experienced team members, the intern assists with quantity takeoffs, bid documentation, vendor and subcontractor outreach, cost data organization, scope review, and project handoff preparation. This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to preconstruction workflows while building technical knowledge, professional communication skills, and an understanding of how projects move from concept and estimate to construction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.

  • Assist with reviewing drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents to understand project scope and requirements. 
  • Support quantity takeoffs and the organization of labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor information used in estimates. 
  • Help prepare bid folders, estimate files, scope sheets, proposal documents, and other preconstruction records accurately and on time. 
  • Assist with soliciting, receiving, tracking, and organizing vendor and subcontractor quotations. 
  • Participate in scope reviews, bid meetings, site visits, and project handoff meetings as assigned. 
  • Help identify drawing or specification questions and support preparation of requests for clarification. 
  • Maintain organized project information, historical cost data, and documentation in accordance with team standards. 
  • Collaborate with estimating, project management, engineering, operations, vendors, and subcontractors to support complete and coordinated proposals. 
  • Learn and apply company safety expectations, quality standards, ethical practices, and confidentiality requirements. 
  • Complete other preconstruction, estimating, and administrative assignments based on project needs and internship learning objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field. 
  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. 
  • Ability to read, learn, and interpret plans, specifications, and technical information with guidance. 

 COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Coursework or prior exposure related to construction, estimating, mechanical systems, engineering, scheduling, or project management. 
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, digital takeoff tools, BIM, Bluebeam, or estimating software. 
  • Previous internship, trade, field, customer service, leadership, or team-based experience. Prior construction experience is helpful but not required.

Compensation Range:   Minimum $22.00 per hour to a maximum $25.00 per hour
