Job Summary

Dallas Mechanical Group (DMG) is seeking a strategic and results-driven leader with extensive experience in commercial plumbing service operations and a demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams, drive revenue growth, improve profitability, optimize workforce utilization, and deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining operational excellence.

 

The Commercial Plumbing Service Manager is responsible for the operational performance, profitability, and growth of the department. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Service Operations, this position provides overall leadership, direction, and accountability for the plumbing service team, ensuring alignment with company objectives and maintaining a high-performing, customer-focused organization. The role oversees all aspects of commercial plumbing service delivery, technician performance, customer satisfaction, workforce planning, financial management, and departmental efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the commercial plumbing service operation, ensuring excellent service delivery, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee service dispatching, technician scheduling, workforce planning, and resource allocation to maximize productivity and responsiveness.
  • Continuously assess workload demands, staffing levels, and departmental capacity to ensure effective utilization of personnel and alignment with business objectives.
  • Manage service backlog, emergency response readiness, and execution of customer commitments while maintaining service quality standards.
  • Establish and drive operational processes, performance expectations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Financial Management

  • Manage the financial performance of the Plumbing Service Department, including revenue growth, gross profit, labor productivity, and overall profitability.
  • Monitor and analyze key financial and operational metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Manage labor costs, overtime, productivity, inventory usage, vehicle expenses, and other departmental expenditures to achieve financial objectives.
  • Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives while tracking performance against established goals.

Workforce Management

  • Lead all talent management activities including recruitment, selection, onboarding, coaching, development, and retention of high-performing service personnel.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures through regular coaching, performance evaluations, and development planning.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify future staffing needs and develop succession plans to ensure long-term organizational success.
  • Promote a workplace culture centered on safety, respect, customer focus, innovation, and operational excellence.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key commercial customers, ensuring exceptional service and responsiveness.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for significant customer concerns, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure all contractual obligations, service level agreements, and customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Drive customer retention, service agreement growth, and recurring revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with business development and sales teams to identify new revenue opportunities and expand service offerings with existing accounts.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a proactive safety culture that prioritizes employee well-being and aligns with all company, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, safety procedures, quality standards, and industry regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in commercial plumbing service management; Experience with commercial facilities in healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, education, and retail environments preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience managing service operations, technicians, or service departments.
  • Strong understanding of commercial plumbing systems, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated financial, operational, and workforce management capabilities.
  • Experience with service scheduling, dispatch coordination, and resource planning.
  • Ability to establish, monitor, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and service management software platforms
  • Experience with ERP and CRM systems preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Plumber License or Journeyman Plumber License.
  • Experience with COINS, Vista by Viewpoint, Service Titan or similar ERP systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Construction Management, or related field.
