About Us

We provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) construction to institutional and government organizations. We are a design-build contractor with extensive BIM and LEED expertise, as well as specialty experience working on complex marine, pump station, and water and wastewater projects.

Job Summary

This role is designed for an accounting professional with 3-5 years of experience who is ready for a challenge and to grow professionally.

 

The Project Accountant serves as a financial partner to Project Managers by supporting project budgeting, job cost reporting, forecasting, billing, and financial analysis. Acting as the project's cost accountant, this position helps maintain accurate and timely financial information throughout the life of each construction project while working closely with Operations and Corporate Accounting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Project Financial Management

  • Partner with Project Managers to monitor project budgets and financial performance.
  • Prepare monthly job cost reports, cost analyses, and supporting financial schedules.
  • Review project costs for accuracy, completeness, and proper cost coding.
  • Assist with project forecasting, earned revenue reporting, and budget updates.
  • Support monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reviews and financial reporting.

Billing and Cash Flow

  • Monitor and review owner billings and assist with monthly billing forecasts.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, outstanding billings, and expected receipt dates.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to resolve billing questions and follow-up items.
  • Help monitor project cash flow and identify potential concerns.

Project Accounting

  • Review purchase orders, subcontract costs, invoices, and change orders.
  • Maintain accurate project financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with project setup, cost code maintenance, budget revisions, and project closeout.
  • Support cost tracking for labor, equipment, hauling, materials, and indirect costs.

Team Collaboration and Improvement

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Corporate Accounting.
  • Participate in monthly financial and project review meetings.
  • Help improve accounting processes, reporting tools, and administrative workflows.
  • Provide responsive, professional financial support to project teams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Three to five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Sound analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Collaborative attitude, professional integrity, and a desire to grow.

Preferred

  • Construction accounting, project accounting, or job cost accounting experience.
  • Heavy civil, commercial construction, engineering, or related industry experience.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or a similar ERP/accounting system.
  • Exposure to forecasting, budgeting, earned revenue, and WIP reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
