Job Summary

Dynalectric Company San Diego is hiring for a Sales Engineer. The Sales Engineer serves in a multifaceted leadership role within the department. This individual will actively promote Dynalectric's services to both existing and prospective clients, including consulting engineers, general contractors, and end users. They will participate in the day-to-day business operations of the Industrial Department, including project scheduling, strategic partnerships, business development initiatives, and joint venture opportunities.

The Sales Engineer continuously evaluates departmental performance and monitors employee, client, and key vendor satisfaction to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.This position operates within a collaborative, project-oriented environment consisting of engineers, project managers, technicians, electricians, general contractors, and subcontractors. Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills are essential. A primary responsibility of this position is technical solution selling, helping clients develop and implement automation solutions that meet their operational objectives.

The primary service territory includes San Diego, Los Angeles, and Imperial Counties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Customer Satisfaction

    • Ensure project managers and engineers understand and meet customer expectations throughout the proposal, design, implementation, and project closeout phases.
    • Monitor customer satisfaction and proactively address concerns by coordinating the appropriate resources to resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
    • Foster long-term client relationships through consistent communication and exceptional service.

    Business Development and Growth

    • Develop and execute strategies to achieve departmental growth objectives.
    • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within target industries.
    • Maintain and expand relationships with existing clients and industry partners.
    • Assist in recruiting and identifying qualified candidates for departmental positions.
    • Participate in forecasting and managing departmental revenue and business development objectives.

    Financial and Project Planning

    • Collaborate with project managers to establish project schedules and budgets that align with customer requirements and company objectives.
    • Support project planning efforts to ensure scope, schedule, and financial expectations are clearly defined and achievable.

    Resource Planning and Workflow Management

    • Work closely with project managers and principal engineers to allocate engineering resources and prioritize project activities.
    • Assist in balancing workload and staffing requirements to ensure commitments to clients are met.

    Strategic Partnerships

    • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with owners, general contractors, consulting engineers, equipment suppliers, and key vendors.
    • Support the development of design-build and integrated project delivery teams by assembling qualified partners with the capabilities necessary to achieve project objectives.
    • Promote Dynalectric's capabilities through industry involvement, client engagement, and strategic networking.

    Estimating and Preconstruction

    • Participate in the preparation of project estimates, proposals, and preconstruction services.
    • Collaborate with estimators, engineers, and project managers to develop accurate and competitive pricing strategies.
    • Assist in developing technical and commercial proposals that align with customer requirements and project objectives.
    • Participate in proposal presentations and client interviews as required.

Travel Requirements

    • Travel throughout Southern California, including San Diego, Los Angeles, and Imperial Counties, is required to support business development, client meetings, project site visits, proposal activities, and industry events.
    • Regular visits to owner, contractor, engineering, and vendor offices, as well as active project and operating facilities, are expected.
    • Attendance at industry conferences, trade shows, networking events, and customer functions may be required to support relationship development and business growth objectives.
    • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary based on project needs, client requirements, and business development opportunities.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
    • Must be able to travel independently and operate a motor vehicle safely.
    • Estimated travel commitment is approximately 25% to 50%, depending on business development activities, project workload, and customer needs.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an Applications Engineer, Sales Engineer, Account Manager, or similar technical sales position promoting instrumentation, control systems, valves, automation solutions, or related technologies.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and process control systems.
  • Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, instrument datasheets, and technical specifications.
  • Strong customer-facing communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with upstream and downstream pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
  • Experience preparing project estimates and cost proposals.
  • Experience developing technical and commercial proposals.
  • Experience working with consulting engineers, EPC contractors, or design-build project teams.
  • Existing relationships within Southern California engineering and contractor communities.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel)

Compensation Range:  $105,000-$140,000
