Job Summary

EMCOR Services Northeast has an immediate need for a Safety Coordinator in our Stoughton, MA office.  The Safety Coordinator is responsible for controlling hazardous conditions resulting from human error or equipment and machine operation failure. The Safety Coordinator applies safety principles, standards, practices and techniques.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and implement overall safety strategy to drive results.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures. Determine how accidents might be prevented in the future and to report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of comprehensive, site-specific Health and Safety policies and procedures, analysis of comprehensive Hazard Analyses, Health and Safety training programs to address site-specific operational and safety functions.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment and PPE.
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
  • Interpret safety regulations as required for employee and client concerns.
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Verify that safety equipment is available to employees, and monitor their use of such equipment to ensure proper fit and use.
  • Prepare and review specifications and orders for the purchase of safety equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
  • Prepare documents to be used in legal proceedings, testifying in such proceedings when necessary.
  • Assist corporate communication with OSHA, and other pertinent federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Manage Workers Compensation. Will conduct site specific safety audits, and manage audit reporting.
  • Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards.
  • Apply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in the design of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Direct and manage the participation in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with or coordinating the attainment of appropriate documentation, communication, meetings and follow-up activities.
  • Keep abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization and communicate same throughout the corporation in a timely manner.
  • Direct, monitor and ensure the efficient handling, processing and removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards.
  • Direct, monitor, coordinate, and follow up with training of employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Monitor the company GPS system and follow up with staff member’s supervisor on issues that arise.
  • Maintain company reporting systems related to Environmental Health & Safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or technical degree with appropriate EH&S credentials is preferred.
  • 1-2 years experience in Health and Safety managing and implementing programs is preferred.
  • 1-5 years construction or industrial safety experience is preferred.
  • Transportation and regular travel to jobsites within a 50 mile radius of the office is required. Jobsite travel is reimbursed by IRS standards.
