Job Summary

DeBra-Kuempel is seeking to fill an Technical Application Specialist position in our Special Projects Division, located in Cincinnati. This role is responsible for coordinating and executing mechanical system startup, activation, and commissioning activities while providing technical support to Project Managers, field teams, manufacturers, and customers to ensure systems are safely installed, code-compliant, and fully operational.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute system startup, activation, and commissioning activities for Special Projects and national account work.
  • Serve as a technical resource to Project Managers by supporting preplanning, sequencing, manpower requirements, shutdowns, and outages aligned with manufacturer startup procedures.
  • Act as the company representative during meetings with owners, contractors, vendors, and inspectors, as required.
  • Assist with project walkthroughs, handoff meetings, and estimate documentation.
  • Develop and maintain startup assistance sheets, procedures, and commissioning documentation to ensure consistent execution across projects.
  • Perform visual inspections of mechanical equipment to verify readiness for startup and proper system functionality.
  • Complete startup worksheets for customer records and ensure accurate documentation of system activation.
  • Provide on-site training to facility owners and end users on the operation of newly installed equipment.
  • Coordinate daily startup activities with Project Managers and MES technicians to ensure efficiency and productivity.
  • Order and coordinate required tools, equipment, and materials to support seamless project execution.
  • Utilize construction management and manufacturer-specific software to track startup activities and project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety programs, and applicable local, state, and national codes.
  • Maintain safe jobsite conditions and ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols.
  • Assist with job permits and regulatory requirements, as applicable.
  • Proactively identify potential issues related to schedule, work interference, or system readiness and communicate risks and solutions to Project Management or senior leadership.
  • Perform responsibilities independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong collaboration with internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree, formal technical training, or completed apprenticeship in HVAC, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical construction, HVAC systems, startup, commissioning, or related field operations required. 7–10 years of experience strongly preferred, including experience supporting project teams and coordinating with manufacturers and customers.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting specifications, construction drawings, and blueprints; experience using vendor and manufacturer software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications; ability and willingness to learn additional software and manufacturer-specific platforms as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization in a collaborative, proactive, and professional manner.
  • Team-oriented approach with a professional demeanor and commitment to quality and customer service.

The noise level in the field work environment is usually moderate to loud.
