Job Summary

The Field Engineer supports onsite construction activities for mechanical systems, ensuring work is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents. This role serves as a technical liaison between project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and design teams, providing engineering support during installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems..

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Provide daytoday engineering and technical support to field operations for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and/or fire protection systems.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to verify constructability and compliance.
  • Assist with layout, equipment placement, and coordination with other trades.
  • Track installation progress and report field conditions, design conflicts, or constructability issues to the project team. Ensure procurement of bonding and insurances as required by company policy and project contracts.
  • Prepare and maintain field documentation including RFIs, submittals, asbuilt drawings, and daily reports.
  • Participate in quality control inspections to verify installations meet contract requirements, codes, and company standards.
  • Assist with punch list creation, tracking, and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors.
  • Attend coordination meetings, safety meetings, and progress meetings as required.
  • Communicate technical requirements clearly to field personnel.

Qualifications

0–5 years of experience in mechanical construction, field engineering, or related roles.

Basic knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, plumbing, and/or fire protection).

Prior experience with a mechanical contractor or on large commercial/industrial projects.

Experience with BIM coordination or field layout tools.
