Job Summary

 EMCOR Government Services is seeking a talented Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Technician  for a bid proposal for a large healthcare government healthcare facilities at  Fort Bragg NC.  The Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Technician – Hospital Infrastructure is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the reliability of critical healthcare facility systems using reliability centered maintenance principles. This role supports patient safety, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted clinical operations by ensuring hospital infrastructure systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. The RCM Technician focuses on proactive, preventive, and predictive maintenance strategies to minimize unplanned downtime and reduce risk to patients, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Hospital Infrastructure Maintenance
• Perform preventive, predictive, and condition based maintenance on hospital infrastructure systems, including:

o HVAC and environmental control systems
o Electrical distribution systems (normal, emergency, and essential electrical systems)
o Medical gas and vacuum systems
o Plumbing and water systems
o Life safety and fire protection systems
o Vertical transportation (elevators) coordination support

• Maintain critical systems that support patient care areas such as ORs, ICUs, data centers, and imaging suites.

Reliability & Risk Management
• Execute maintenance tasks derived from RCM analysis, FMEA, and risk based maintenance strategies.
• Identify potential failure modes that could impact patient safety or regulatory compliance.
• Perform structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) following system failures.
• Recommend reliability improvements to reduce failures, extend asset life, and improve uptime of critical systems.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
• Perform work in compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, NFPA codes, and applicable local/state regulations.
• Accurately document maintenance activities, inspections, deficiencies, and corrective actions in the CMMS.
• Support environment of care (EC) and life safety (LS) programs through documentation, testing, and reporting.
• Assist with regulatory surveys, audits, and inspections by providing asset history and maintenance records.

Condition Monitoring & Data Collection
• Collect and interpret condition data such as temperature trends, vibration data, pressure readings, electrical load measurements, and system alarms.
• Identify early warning signs of equipment degradation and communicate risks to facility leadership.
• Support development and refinement of preventive maintenance tasks and intervals based on asset performance data.

Safety & Patient Centered Operations
• Follow strict safety protocols including lockout/tagout, infection control risk assessments (ICRA), and interim life safety measures (ILSM).
• Coordinate work to minimize disruption to patient care, clinical operations, and hospital staff.
• Maintain strong situational awareness in patient care environments.

Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with clinical staff, facilities engineers, vendors, and contractors to coordinate maintenance and repairs.
• Communicate system status, risks, and planned work clearly and professionally.
• Support training and mentoring of junior technicians as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school preferred.
• Minimum one  year of experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in healthcare, critical facilities, or institutional environments.
• Working knowledge of multiple building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, life safety).
• Familiarity with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), preventive maintenance, and predictive maintenance concepts.
• Experience using a CMMS for work order management and asset history tracking.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem solving skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications
• Healthcare facilities experience (hospital, medical center, or ambulatory care).
• Certifications or training related to: 

o CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional)
o Healthcare Facilities Management (e.g., ASHE)
o HVAC, electrical, or medical gas systems

• Experience with NFPA codes, Joint Commission standards, and Environment of Care programs.
• Knowledge of emergency power supply systems (EPSS).

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and accessing mechanical spaces.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, or on call for emergency response.
