Job Summary

Job Title:           Project Engineer – Microsoft Project

Reports to:       Project Manager

FLSA Status:     Full-Time / Non-Exempt

Position Description

The Project Engineer works with an assigned Project Manager or project to assist with project scopes & site surveys, performing engineering calculations and other technical assistance as assigned or needed, through the construction phase. The position supports all divisions of Baker Electric, Inc., a subsidiary of publicly traded EMCOR Group, Inc., located in Des Moines, IA.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist the project leaders in various responsibilities, including project tracking – manpower and general schedules, preparing and communicating daily construction reports, coordinating with prefab schedules and other project coordination duties.
  • Collect historical cost data and partner with other parties to estimate costs for current or future products and to prepare estimates for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Review contract and bid documents; review and understand scope for project tracking and updating.
  • Attend walk-throughs, pre-bid and scope clarification meetings.
  • Quantitative take-off and computer entry.
  • Maintain project documentation in an organized manner.
  • Ability to perform design/build, conceptual and budget estimates.
  • Assist in performing take-offs, issuing bills of material to vendors, obtaining subcontractor quotes, ordering / tracking materials through the project.
  • Assist project managers with takeoffs and pricing changes in work.
  • Assist in administrative tasks as required by the needs of the project leaders, including, but not limited to, timekeeping duties, recycling efforts, vendor coordination, QA/QC projects and warranty tracking statements
  • Maintain confidentiality of work and any Baker Electric project knowledge.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the leaders.
  • Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Preferred Education and Experience (Knowledge)

  • 2+ years related experience in the construction industry or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or construction related field desirable
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Experience with, or ability to learn, Bluebeam, Procore, 3D BIM viewing and general ERP-type systems

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, see, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to commute to field locations to accurately perform takeoffs.  The employee must have the ability to navigate around job site locations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

Work from home is not an option for this position.
