Job Summary

SUMMARY

 

Welsbach Electric Corp. of L.I. is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent with a minimum of 3-5 years purchasing experience, preferably in an electrical construction environment.  This position is responsible for the day to day purchasing activities.  Responsibilities include the receipt of material and equipment requisitions; sourcing of material and equipment in accordance with company best practices and defined procurement objectives; negotiation of pricing and supplier selection under the direction of management; placement of orders with vendors; data entry into a computerized purchasing system; and the expediting, tracking and scheduling of orders. Responsible for the receipt of materials and equipment at the main warehouse location including inspection for accuracy, coordination and scheduling for job site delivery and data entry of shipping documentation into the purchasing system. In addition is responsible for all administrative duties in support of operational procurement activities.

 

Compensation Range: $60,000 - $75,000 per year, Full Time, Exempt, Onsite

 

Other Compensation: This position is bonus eligible.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive verbal and written requisitions for materials and equipment from project managers and field operations.
  • Review and source materials and equipment in accordance with established company practices and procedures.
  • Solicit quotations from vendors. Review, analyze and present findings to management with emphasis on best economic value and defined company procurement objectives.    
  • Generate, distribute and track all purchase orders through computerized purchasing system in accordance with established company procedures.
  • Responsible for the tracking and expediting of all existing orders including follow up with vendors to ensure timely delivery and adherence to project schedules and budgets.
  • Review materials upon receipt for accuracy. Enter documentation into purchasing system. 
  • Support estimating department by contacting vendors for budgetary quotations for materials and equipment in the preparation of bids.
  • Ensure compliance with public works requirements, including prevailing wage, Buy American, W/M/DBE/SDVOB and other contract-specific provisions.
  • Solicit and prepare submittal documentation in support of project managers.
  • Coordinate and document supplier certificates of compliance with project managers.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all SDS documentation.
  • In conjunction with the Labor Superintendent, responsible for the accurate disbursement of materials and tools from the shop.
  • Update and maintain tool management database.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the President/C.E.O. with recommendation for resolution.
  • Other related duties in support of operations as required by the company or as directed by management.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration and Management is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of recent work experience in either the purchasing or supply of electrical and telecommunications products along with a strong understanding of supply chain procurement logistics.  Applicants with a business related degree will be considered with less work experience.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications in order to develop and analyze electrical product bills of material is highly preferred. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulatory guidelines, company SOP, operating and maintenance instructions, packing slips and bills of laden, and product data sheets is required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word is required.
  • Adept in Adobe applications, including Acrobat Pro.
  • Proficient in standardized purchasing software.  Familiarity with Power Purchase is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Windows based operating systems and web-based applications.
  • Ability to create, file and manage electronic documents.

While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to travel to remote field locations on Long Island.
