Job Summary

Mechanical Specialties Contractors has several openings for Instrumentation Fitters in the greater Raleigh area.  An instrument fitter installs, assembles, and maintains control and measurement equipment, typically in industrial settings like oil and gas or manufacturing. This involves installing and connecting tubing and piping, as well as testing the assembly for proper function. The role requires physical work, including lifting and using various hand and power tools. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

  • Layout of pipe systems, supports or related equipment according to blueprints.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Install, cut, and bend tubing and piping systems for instrument controls and process lines. 
  • Assemble or secure pipes (1/2" to 10" size), fittings accessories (valves, gauges, etc...), or related equipment according to project specifications by welding, brazing, soldering or threading joints.
  • Assemble and install instrument stands, instrument air headers, and other related equipment. 
  • Inspect or test installed systems using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing or other methods.
  • Cut or bore holes in stuctures prior to pipe installation using hand or power tools.
  •  Test installed equipment to ensure it meets specifications. 

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of commercial process Instrumentation pipefitting experience for GMP oriented customers
  • Experience with installation of stainless-steel and/or carbon process piping systems with little supervision.
  • Ability to fit, solder, and layout piping systems
  • Experience reading blueprints and drawings
  • Good communication and Conflict Resolution skills 
  • experience working in large industrial settings complying to good safe work practices
