Job Summary

 

Central Mechanical Construction is seeking an experienced, full‑time HVAC Service Technician to perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance, as well as troubleshoot and service commercial and industrial HVAC systems. The ideal candidate is well organized, maintains accurate service and maintenance records, and communicates effectively with customers and team members. This role requires leadership, strong customer relationships, and team‑building skills. As a 24/7 service company, regular work beyond 40 hours per week may be required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

HVAC Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance on standard package and split-system HVAC units, including:
    • Inspecting and replacing belts and pulleys
    • Inspecting and cleaning condensate drain lines
    • Testing compressors, fan motors, and blower motors
    • Testing burner/heat exchanger safety and operation
    • Verifying proper function of all operational and safety controls
  • Diagnose and repair airflow and ducting issues.
  • Perform general repairs on steam and hot-water boiler systems.
  • Handle refrigerants safely, efficiently, and in compliance with EPA standards.
  • Diagnose and repair common mechanical, electrical, and system failures, including:
    belts, pulleys, compressors, condensing units, circuit boards, contactors, leaks, and copper component brazing/un-sweating.

General Maintenance

  • Perform basic plumbing tasks such as clearing drains, repairing leaks, and replacing fixtures.
  • Perform minor electrical tasks allowed without a license under state regulations.
  • Complete service and asset inspections as needed.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Complete work orders, documenting all findings and work performed.
  • Use company technology (tablet, smartphone) for work management.
  • Prepare Service Reports and Quality Inspection images as required.
  • Submit timesheets, expenses, and purchase card logs.
  • Maintain timely and consistent communication with customers and internal teams.
  • Provide estimates for larger repairs or projects.
  • Attend required safety training and weekly safety meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

    • High school diploma or degree/certification preferred in Trades (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.) or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of HVAC/general maintenance experience (electrical, plumbing, carpentry) or equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions, safety policies, and procedure manuals.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency with handheld devices and business software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
    • Knowledge of and compliance with all applicable codes, OSHA standards, and company safety policies.
    • Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
    • Ability to travel locally between client sites daily.

    Licenses & Certifications

    • EPA Universal Certification required.
    • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
    • Journeyman or Master Mechanical License preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, kneel, crawl, and communicate.
  • Must be able to climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift/move up to 25 lbs, frequently up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work from heights as required.
