Job Summary

New England Mechanical Services, Inc., is seeking an HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice to join our New London CT Operations Group to perform fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal components and equipment. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine appropriate fabrication and installation methods.

 

No experience needed but completion of apprentice schooling required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include but not limited to the following.

 

Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.

Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or uses templates.

Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.

Communicate clearly and effectively with supervisor and crew members.
Works with other trades to coordinate work on the job site.

Keep trade licenses and certifications current.

Attend all safety training provided and/or sponsored by NEMSI.

Follow all NEMSI safety policies, procedures, and use personal protective equipment when performing installation and/or servicing HVAC systems.

Interact with clients in a professional and courteous manner while maintaining a clean and neat appearance.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the journeyman assigned to.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Post-secondary vocational or technical school diploma in Sheet Metal 2 from an accredited Institution required OR a recognized apprenticeship program.
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Experience a plus, NEMSI will train the right candidates
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent communication and written skills are a must.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, smell and lift, set-up and climb ladders as well as stairways. The employee is frequently required to stand and occasionally sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move various weight ranges such as 0-50 lbs. frequently, 51-100 lbs. occasionally and 101 plus seldom. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Maintain a neat and clean appearance and utilize all protective equipment provided and as required.
