Job Title: Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer (HVAC Design)

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday – Friday

About the Role

We are seeking an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer with an interest in HVAC design to join our team. In this role, you will support the creation of HVAC system layouts, system narratives, drawings, and specifications for projects of various types and sizes. You’ll work closely with our internal design, construction, and service teams while learning directly from experienced engineering leaders.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate or early‑career engineer looking to build a strong foundation in mechanical and HVAC design within a collaborative, project‑focused environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of the Preconstruction Vice President, you will:

  • Assist with creating HVAC system designs, including drawings, specifications, and system narratives.
  • Design heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning layouts using CAD software.
  • Perform basic heat gain/loss calculations for residential and commercial projects.
  • Support internal design, construction, and service teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Help prepare designs for negotiated and Design/Build projects.
  • Assist with conceptual cost estimates for a wide range of HVAC systems.
  • Participate in QA/QC processes to ensure design quality.
  • Review and interpret architectural drawings and 3D models to support design decisions.
  • Support project scheduling, manpower planning, and budget development.
  • Assist with construction administration, including field visits and investigations.
  • Help process Submittals, RFIs, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Record Drawings.
  • Recommend product improvements or cost‑saving opportunities when identified.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain consistent design standards.
  • Attend department meetings and contribute to a positive, team‑oriented work environment.

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

 

Experience (Entry Level Accepted)

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC principles and system applications
  • Familiarity with building codes (preferred)
  • Exposure to reading architectural drawings and/or 3D models (coursework accepted)
  • Interest in LEED principles related to HVAC design (preferred)
  • Ability to pursue a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the future (PE not required for entry‑level)

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Exposure to AutoCAD MEP and/or energy modeling software (Trane Trace, Carrier HAP) a plus
  • Strong organizational and project‑execution skills

 

Soft Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • High degree of trustworthiness and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic learner with a passion for continuous improvement

 

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily a sedentary office role, with occasional job site visits
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally

 

Work Environment

  • Professional office setting using standard office equipment
  • Occasional visits to construction sites, which may involve exposure to noise, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and varying weather conditions

 

Travel

Moderate travel to job sites is required.
