Sr. Project Accountant – Major Projects
Position Summary:
The Sr. Project Accountant for Major Projects is responsible for managing project accounting operations and leading the project accounting team. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, cost control, and compliance throughout the lifecycle of large-scale data center projects. The Sr. Project Accountant reports to the Project Director and works closely with the Sr. Project Manager and project teams to provide critical job cost data, support forecasting, and maintain financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Lead project accounting team and oversee all accounting operations.
- Provide job cost data for projections, forecasting, and month-end close.
- Monitor project financials and facilitate ongoing reviews for cost savings.
- Generate reports and deliver accurate financial data to project managers.
System Setup & Cost Management
- Set up projects and maintain cost codes and budgets.
- Align WBS structures with cost codes for accurate reporting.
- Manage budget adjustments and respond to coding inquiries.
- Support payroll coding and assist with general ledger concerns.
Change Orders, Purchase Orders & Billing
- Process and track Change Orders; update systems and maintain accurate SOV.
- Create and adjust Purchase Orders based on project needs.
- Prepare pay applications for GMP projects and ensure proper billing classifications.
- Manage invoicing, lien waivers, and accounts receivable through Textura.
Vendor & Compliance Management
- Set up and maintain vendor/subcontractor documentation (W9s, COIs, credit apps).
- Ensure OCIP compliance and submit monthly reporting.
- Address subcontractor compliance issues and maintain insurance renewals.
- Participate in audits and provide required documentation.
Project Closeout & JV Responsibilities
- Facilitate final subcontract payments and accounts receivable collection.
- Complete JV closeout tasks: banking, journal entries, financial statements.
- Prepare year-end reports, 1099s, and support audit reviews.
- Archive project files and finalize OCIP reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in construction or major projects.
- Proficiency in Coins and Textura.
- Strong understanding of GMP billing and cost code management.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
