Mechanical Design Technician Trainee

We provide industry-leading, end-to-end fire protection, mechanical, and HVAC services. Our skilled tradespeople work in virtually every market across the nation.

The Mechanical Design Trainee will be assigned a mentor to observe their functions and processes.  They will assist the Mechanical Fabrication & Design Manager, along with Mechanical Designers, to learn all aspects of developing fabrication HVAC Piping and Plumbing drawings according to the fabrication scope that will include development of details drawings in accordance with standards, construction specifications, CAD standards and industry wide detailing practices.  At all times works in compliance with the Company’s safety practices.

 

Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

• Assists and takes direction from the Mechanical Fabrication & Design Manager and the Design staff to continue to acquire the Company’s objectives and your personal performance goals.
• Ability to understand and resolve coordination problems.
• Ability to effectively design a project.
• Ability to select all required materials for installation.
• Ability to operate present version of AutoCAD and learn Revit.
• Ability to learn to read and understand complex construction documents.
• Ability to learn to create shop drawings for field installation.

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Engineering background is a plus.
• Ability to go to construction sites and perform surveys off of ladders or lifts is required.
• Mechanical aptitude is required.
• A commitment to learn and show initiative in completing the training program is required.
• Willingness to take direction from others and being willing to complete mundane tasks as part of the overall responsibilities is required.
• AutoCAD training or experience is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit, climb, reach, and use hands and fingers to handle and move objects. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The physical strength rating is classified as light work which means the employee will be exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required for the job include close acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision. This employee may be exposed to a wide range of environmental conditions including indoors, outdoors, extreme hot/cold temperatures, fumes, odors, toxic conditions, dust, poor ventilation, humidity, loud noises, vibrations, and wet conditions. Arm, eye, feet, head, leg, skin, hearing, and/or respiratory protection may be required while performing the duties of the job. Operation of a computer keyboard, telephone, copier/fax machine, drawing/drafting materials, a hand calculator, and manual hand tools may be required. Understanding of addition and subtraction, simple math, advanced math (Calculus, Algebra, & Geometry), simple drawings, technical reports, technical instructions, layout work, simple memos, and business letters is required. In addition, the employee must be able to write or present simple memos, summaries, business letters, and technical reports.
