EMCOR Facilities Services has an immediate opening for a Journeyman Apprentice Electrician in Middle River, MD. The Technician will report daily to the EMCOR Facility Manager or Lead Tech and support them to provide quality workmanship and high work standards to maintain a professional working environment. Using specialized electrical equipment (e.g., wires/cables, transformers, insulators, lightning arresters, reclosers, switches, fuses, ground connects, and control equipment) to install wire and cable lines. Testing high voltage systems and equipment (e.g., circuit breakers, transformers, grounding systems, metal and wood poles, relays, and street and floodlight systems) to identify repairs needed. Candidate must be willing to learn and become certified in working with High Voltage, 600 volt industrial electrical systems.
Primary responsibilities of this position is to be responsible for maintaining the facilities and more complex power distribution system associated with the facility substations and maintenance of the operational systems along with performing general maintenance tasks as required.
Knowledge and experience with high voltage systems a plus. Qualified applicant must be a US Citizen, possess a valid driver’s license and have at least 4 years of hands on experience in facilities/electrical maintenance and dealing with a wide range of general type services. The selected candidate will receive hands on training immediately and formal classroom training to become HT certified after the completion of one year of service. Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills.
| Communicates effectively with the Facility Manager & Site Lead Electrician to determine service needs. Coordinates & supervises sub-contractors while performing service on site. |
Electrical maintenance and repair skills. Perform monthly preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing equipment as required. |
Respond to electrical issues, lighting repairs, bulb replacements, circuit failures and requests for new installations. |
Performs a wide variety of corrective maintenance work requests and assists other skilled employees to perform projects or PM’s as requested. |
Attends regular toolbox safety meetings with the Facility Manager and associates. Utilizes mandatory safety equipment to perform tasks. Obtains and completes company required training. |
Assist the team in maintaining, operating and troubleshooting the electrical systems, emergency generator, fire pumps, lighting systems and general maintenance issues such as plumbing and other general maintenance problems. |
Snow removal and ice management as needed for the 163 acre campus (Winter months). |
Education (HS Diploma, Under/Graduate Degree, etc.) | HS Diploma |
Business Experience (prior years work/related experience) | 3 – 5 years of experience related to electrical facility maintenance. |
Licenses/Certifications | Valid US driver’s license Electrical license or High Voltage certification a plus NFPA 70E training certification (National Fire Protection Assn). |
Language Skills | Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read electrical prints and procedure manuals. |
Technical Qualifications & Skills | Ability to perform various general type maintenance tasks. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence utilizing basic computer skills and ability to communicate via email and internet use. |
Excellent customer service and communication skills. |
Experience utilizing various electrical testing equipment, voltages up to 600V, and the National Electric Code (NEC). Experience with three phase electrical. Knowledge of test equipment for relays, circuit breakers, and infrared scanning. |
Knowledge of emergency generators, UPS systems, electric & diesel fire pumps. |
Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and read, understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams. High voltage switchgear experience and understanding the operations. |
Organization skills to maintain the client facility maintenance records and reports. |
Time management skills to coordinate and supervise the client sub-contractors while on site and manage to complete the daily routine tasks assigned.

The ability to lift 50lbs, climb ladders and ability to walk the facility throughout the day are required. Have the ability to regularly kneel repetitively during shift. Have the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis. Have the ability to work and maneuver on a variety of terrains. Have the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. May be required to work in confined, restricted and hot areas. Must be willing to work overtime when required and may be required to work holidays and/or weekends at times. We are responsible for snow removal and there are times in the Winter season when most of the day is spent outdoors in cold/snow conditions. We are also responsible for landscaping and there are times in the Summer season when most of the day is spent outdoors in hot/sunny conditions.
Compensation Range: $30hr - $36/hr
Other Compensation: this position is not bonus or commission eligible
