Job Summary

Gowan/Garrett, Inc. is seeking a Site Safety Representative responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment on construction sites. This position ensures compliance with company safety policies and General Contractor requirements, conducts safety training, and monitors daily site activities for safety infractions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing the following regularly:

  • Review, approve, and audit pre-task planning documentation
  • Guide foremen and employees in creating and improving JHA, PSP, and JSAs to ensure they are site-specific and effective risk mitigation tools
  • Assist with new hire orientations and ongoing safety training for all site personnel
  • Maintain and update site-specific safety documentation in accordance with:
    • Gowan Garrett Safety Handbook
    • General Contractor safety requirements
  • Ensure all required safety paperwork is completed, organized, and readily accessible
  • Implement and enforce safety practices and procedures on the jobsite
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and provide written reports to the Jobsite Superintendent detailing:
    • Safety infractions
    • Corrective actions
    • Recommendations for improvement
  • Serve as the point of contact for safety-related concerns and escalate issues as needed
  • Support incident investigations and ensure proper documentation and follow-up

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction safety or a related role
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations (i.e.: OSHA standards)

This position requires frequent movement throughout active construction sites, including walking on uneven surfaces, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to outdoor elements and construction-related hazards. While some administrative duties may be performed in an office setting, including sitting and working at a computer, the position primarily involves on-site presence. The position may also require lifting and carrying safety equipment, documents, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Site Safety Representative primarily works on active construction sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, loud noise, dust, and other typical construction-related hazards. While some administrative tasks may be completed in an office or jobsite trailer during standard business hours, the role is fast-paced, field-focused, and requires adaptability to changing site conditions and schedules. Occasional travel between job sites may be necessary.
