Job Summary

Gowan/Garrett, Inc. is seeking a skilled and dependable Accounting Supervisor to lead day-to-day financial operations and ensure accuracy across key accounting functions. This role is responsible for overseeing payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and supporting the preparation of financial reports and budget management. The Accounting Supervisor will work cross-functionally with other departments to maintain compliance with internal policies and accounting standards, while providing guidance and support to the accounting team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of financial processes, leadership experience, and a commitment to maintaining efficient and compliant operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned:

  • Assist with preparing monthly financial statements in line with GAAP
  • Help manage cost reports, budgets, and forecasts
  • Process accounting transactions accurately and on time
  • Support internal controls and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with bank reconciliations
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with financial reporting packages
  • Work with project teams on billing, collections, and cost tracking
  • Support audits and maintain organized financial records
  • Monitor overhead expenses and assist with payroll tax filings
  • Help manage employee data in HR systems as needed
  • Participate in special projects and support other accounting staff

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting or Business preferred
  • 3-5 years of recent related experience
  • Construction industry experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with GAAP and internal controls
  • Strong Microsoft Office and general accounting software skills
  • Working knowledge of COINS software is helpful
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
